You would only use an SCR if you wanted to do some sort of phase control like in a lamp dimmer. Otherwise a simple diode is far cheaper. MOSFETs can be used as line rectifiers with lower losses than diodes or SCRs but they are relatively expensive and the drive arrangement is complex. Where they do score though is in the ‘totem pole PFC’ circuit which provides line rectification and power factor correction at the same time. These circuits can be 99%+ efficient and are becoming viable at high power using wide band gap MOSFETs in silicon carbide. GaN HEMT cells can also be used or cascodes of silicon MOSFETs and a SiC JFET.
